Orlando Blast Caused By Cooking Fuel

September 25th, 2013 | WMFE- Firefighters say an explosion that rattled downtown Orlando this afternoon was caused by an experimental cooking fuel. Several streets remain closed around the site of the spontaneous blast at a warehouse on West Jefferson street.

The explosion tore a chunk out of one side of the building.

Deputy fire chief Chad Williamson says it was a spontaneous explosion in a storage warehouse where the owner was experimenting with alternative cooking fuels.

No one was in the building at the time, and no one was hurt.

Five more fuel containers remain in the building and authorities are working on making them safe.

Thursday afternoon, West Jefferson St. and West Robinson St. remained closed between North Orange Ave. and the Railroad tracks.

The tracks were also closed to trains.
