UCF Rosen College Finds New Way to Benefit Second Harvest Food Bank

The quest to learn about beer and wine is benefiting a Central Florida food bank this month. Organizers of a unique fundraiser at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management are hoping it will become a regular event.

It seems beer and wine aficionados are always trying to learn more- which are the best wine growing regions? How do you pair beer with food?  These are things that are taught at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. So this year, when the College chose to do a fundraiser benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank, it scheduled a series of beer and wine classes based on those offered to students.  Rosen Employer Relations Assistant Director Bradley Loomis says he’s happy with the response.

"It’s the first time we’ve ever opened up to the public to do these kinds of classes, we didn’t know what our response would be, we would certainly be thrilled if we would have sold out the 50 seats, but we’re very happy with the responses,” he says.

Loomis says the college is donating all of the beer and wine and faculty members are donating their time for the classes, allowing 100-percent of the proceeds to go to Second Harvest. The last class in the series is scheduled for October 25th.  It’s an introduction to the World of Wines.
