Girls Scouts CEO Inspires Local Girls

She seeks to empower girls to lead and has a special message for this region’s Hispanic youth.  “Not only bilingual but multilingual individuals are going to be very welcomed in the economy and in business, and so I always encourage Latina girls: practice your Spanish,” she says.

Chávez says Girl Scout programs are available in Spanish or English.  

She adds the real barrier to scouting is a lack of adult volunteers.  It leaves hundreds of girls in Central Florida on waiting lists to join troops.  Chávez says even people without daughters -- including men -- can donate time or money.

For both volunteers and members, Girl Scouts has a long-standing non-discrimination policy.
