Hospital System Busy with Openings and Expansions  Osceola Regional Medical Center breaks ground this week on a new free-standing emergency department in Hunter's Creek in Osceola County. The new hospital is expected to serve 300-thousand people in South Orlando and North Osceola counties. This week's groundbreaking comes on the heels of two other hospital openings.
[Central Florida Regional Hospital CEO Wendy Brandon prepares to cut the ribbon at the Oviedo ER] Oviedo resident Gordon Boardway says people in his city are thrilled that there is now an emergency department so close by. “This is a dream that’s been long in the coming, so, having lived here for 20-plus years and having watched people make a trip to the ER in rush hour traffic in Winter Park, or somewhere else, taking over an hour, this is just wonderful,” he says. The Oviedo ER will provide full emergency services, and includes a room equipped for trauma and a decontamination room. Two days prior to the Oviedo ER ribbon cutting, Osceola Regional Hospital, which is part of the same system, unveiled a new expansion. Central Florida Hospital CEO Wendy Brandon says Oviedo is one of several under-served communities that HCA Central Florida is moving into. “Well, I believe the strategy is to deliver health care locally, where there’s a real need,” she says. This past summer, HCA opened a hospital in Poinciana after residents there pushed for it. A new hospital planned for Hunter’s Creek is expected to open next summer. |
