Update: George Zimmerman Charged in Alleged Domestic Violence Incident

November 18th, 2013 | WMFE- George Zimmerman has been arrested after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a gun. Zimmerman was booked into jail in Seminole County, Florida this afternoon.

Seminole County Sheriff's deputies arrested Zimmerman around 1pm, after responding to a disturbance call in Apopka.

In a press conference chief deputy Dennis Lemma said Zimmerman’s girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe,  called police and said Zimmerman had pointed a shotgun at her, pushed her out of the house and barricaded the door.

“She was very concerned for her own safety, especially having the weapon pointed at her, and then being pushed out, barricaded out and having damaged property on the inside of the house,” said Lemma.

He said electronic monitoring would be requested if Zimmerman is granted bail at tomorrow's hearing.

The hearing is set for 1:30 at the John E Polk Correctional Facility.

Zimmerman is currently being held in what's known as adminstrative confinement, separated from the general population because of the high profile nature of the case.  

In July, the former neighborhood watch volunteer was found not guilty of second degree murder after her fatally shot teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford in February 2012.

In September police were called out to a domestic dispute involving Zimmerman, his estranged wife Shellie Zimmerman and her father.

No charges were laid in that incident.
