Update: George Zimmerman Bonded Out of Jail

November 19th, 2013 | WMFE- George Zimmerman has left the Seminole County Jail after posting $9,000 bond. The former neighborhood watch volunteer made a brief court appearance Tuesday afternoon, following his arrest the day before on domestic violence charges.

Zimmerman's girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, alleges he broke a table at her home in Apopka, pointed a gun at her, then barricaded himself inside the house.

He's charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence battery and criminal mischief.

Seminole County judge Fred Schott set bond at $9,000.

Assistant State Attorney Lymary Munoz said Zimmerman's girlfriend was afraid of him.

She told the court Zimmerman was threatening to commit suicide and that a week and a half ago he had tried to choke her.

She asked for bail to be set at $50,000.

Zimmerman was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device, not to have weapons and to stay away from his girlfriend.

His next court appearance is set for January 7th.

Zimmerman was represented by the head of the Seminole County Public Defender's Office Jeff Dowdy and assistant public defender Daniel Megaro.

After the hearing they told reporters that they were surprised to hear about the alleged strangulation attempt- or that Zimmerman was threatening suicide.

Zimmerman's arrest came on the same day as Sybrina Fulton spoke at Havard about changing Florida's Stand Your Ground self defense laws.

Fulton's son, 17 year old Trayvon Martin, was shot dead by Zimmerman as he walked in a gated community in Sanford last year.

Zimmerman said he fired in self defense, and in July this year he was acquitted of second degree murder by a jury in Seminole County.
