In-state Rivals for Orlando City Soccer? Club President Says Bring It

November 20, 2013 | WMFE - Who will be the biggest rivals of Orlando's new major league soccer team? MLS Commissioner Don Garber hinted Miami might also land a team soon, as he announced Tuesday that Orlando will get a major league franchise.

Orlando City Soccer Club President Phil Rawlins says he welcomes the rivalry.

"Whether it's Miami or whether it's Atlanta that comes in that's down to the league. But we look forward to the rivalry in the Southeast because we know that's really what fires up the fans. They get passionate about it, and we've got passionate fans."

Rawlins says Orlando will maintain the Lions as its nickname and purple as its color when it moves up to the major league in 2015. But it'll get a new logo and jerseys, to be unveiled at events throughout next year.

Groundbreaking for the team's new stadium is planned for next year.
