Over a dozen activists signed the Floridian’s Clean Water Declaration in Orlando on Thursday.

The declaration, announced on the lawn just next to the Department of Environmental Protection, calls for the improvement of water quality statewide.

One of the demonstrators was Patrick Rose, an aquatic biologist and director of the Save the Manatee Club.

“There’s too much water that’s getting too dirty, and then not enough water that is clean enough to provide the basic function it needs,” says Rose.

Rose warns that the state could be in trouble if more effort is not made to clean and protect water bodies.

Some Department of Environmental Protection staff watched the rally.

The DEP's Jeff Prather says he supports any group that promotes Florida’s environment.

“We’re gonna keep working really hard to make sure we provide exactly what this group is looking for, which is clean water and plenty of it in the state of Florida,” says Prather.

The declaration is part of a larger push from a coalition of over 40 water quality groups statewide.
