Report: More A's for Florida High Schools December 18th, 2013 | WMFE - The Florida Department of Education released its High School Grade Report this week, and a record number of schools received an "A" this year.
It’s normally students that get graded, but every year the Florida Department of Education releases its report card for high schools statewide. A record number of 48 percent of high schools received an “A” grade this year. Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart says schools throughout Florida did better overall than last year, but that the grading scale will once again change in the 2014-2015 school year. This could lead to a dip in student performance. “We would expect that when we move to a new harder assessment that initially our students would not perform as well,” says Stewart. A 2011 Board of Education rule requires changes to the high school grading scale if 75 percent or more schools earn A’s or B’s. This year, 82 percent of schools received an A or B, changing up the grading scale for the next school year. |
