Central Florida Homeless Shelters Gear up for Cold

January 6th, 2014 | WMFE- Cold weather is on the way, and homeless shelters are gearing up. Temperatures in some areas will dip into the 20s and 30s overnight on Monday and Tuesday.

The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is declaring Monday and Tuesday “cold nights.” These are nights where temperatures reach below 40 degrees.

No-one  seeking shelter from the cold will be turned away, regardless of space.

Muffet Robinson of the Coalition says people who come in can expect a warm place to stay and a meal for the night.

“We accommodate people usually with mats on the floor and blankets from the community,”she says.

The shelters various locations can accommodate over 600 men, women and children on an average night.

Robinson says the coalition is also looking for donations of blankets during the cold snap.
