UCF Wins Fiesta Bowl in Baylor Upset

January 2, 2014 | WMFE - The University of Central Florida Knights took advantage of making it to a BCS bowl game, defeating the Baylor Bears in a 52-42 upset during Wednesday night's Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. The Knights entered the game a 17-point underdog, but came out on top.

UCF defied expectations from the start, building a 14-point lead early and earning back the winning spot after 6th-ranked Baylor briefly evened the score in the third quarter. The 15th-ranked Knights piled up 556 total yards in the second-highest scoring BCS bowl ever, outlasting the nation's top offensive team in a rousing BCS debut.

After the game, Coach George O’Leary called the game a “great win.”

“I think right now I’m excited for just the players, the fans, and just the whole program, and I know how much work went into getting where we had to get to, and how much work the players had to get done to get where they were,” O’Leary told reporters.

O’Leary said school starts again on Monday…and so does practice for the team.
