Precourt Picked to Lead Expressway Authority

January 7th, 2013 | WMFE- State Representative Steve Precourt has been picked as the new Executive Director of the Orlando -Orange County expressway authority.

The agency manages Central Florida’s 109 mile expressway system.

Precourt, a civil engineer, has represented districts 41 and 44 in Central Florida in the House of Representatives since 2006.

Two of the five expressway authority board members voted against nominating Precourt to the job, including Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs.

“It’s not that I don’t think Steve Precourt will do a good job, I like him, I think he’ll do a good job," Jacobs said.

"I think we had a better qualified candidate, but the board didn’t and I think we’ll have to move forward."

By law Precourt, a Republican from Orlando, will have to step down from his legislative position before taking the job with the expressway authority January 13th.

He replaces Max Crumit who resigned after board members voted to search for a new director last August.
