Flu cases statewide are on the rise but peak season is still a month away. The type of flu making headlines right now is H1N1, the same strain that caused a nationwide outbreak in 2009. We didn't have a vaccine for it then, but we do now.  Still, people put off getting the shot because they don't like needles or they say they don't have the time to get one.  Orange County Health Department Director Kevin Sherin says those aren't good reasons.

"People who say they don't have time, it's on every corner. I mean, you have your pharmacies where you can walk in and get your flu shots. So it's not a question of time, it's a question of priorities," he says.

Sherin says if you're squeamish about shots you can get the flu mist instead. He says it's particularly important for pregnant women to get vaccinated as they and their unborn child are at risk for complications.
