Reddit Co-founder to Speak at UCF Tomorrow

January 17th, 2014 | WMFE - Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian will be at UCF tomorrow evening to talk about internet entrepreneurship and promote his new book, "Without Their Permission."

Social news and entertainment website Reddit began humbly. Co-founder Alexis Ohanian says it first came out of a selfish desire to live the “collegiate life" for as long as possible--and work without a boss. It then evolved into a website better known as “The Internet’s Front Page.”

Ohanian says that he sees Reddit, and social media as a whole, as a catalyst of change for news.

“The fact that all of us are now essentially connected to the internet and can not only receive information but share it, has really democratized media," Ohanian says.

His advice to young would-be tech entrepreneurs—start early.

“Now is the time to get good at failing. To get good at trying new things and having ideas and doing them,” he says.

Ohanian is on a 200 city speaking tour, visiting over 70 colleges nationwide.

His new book, “Without Their Permission,” describes Reddit's beginnings and offers tips for future techies.
