Family of SeaWorld Trainer Killed in 2010 Release Statement About "Blackfish"

January 21st, 2014 | WMFE - The family of Dawn Brancheu issued a statement today regarding the controversial documentary "Blackfish."

In a statement released on The Dawn Brancheu Foundation’s website, family members deny any involvement in the film "Blackfish," saying they didn’t know about the film’s content until it was shown at the Sundance Film Festival.

The statement also goes on to say: “Dawn would not have remained a trainer at SeaWorld for 15 years if she felt that the whales were not well cared for.”

The documentary is highly critical of SeaWorld’s animal practices.  It examines the circumstances leading to an orca killing Brancheau in front of park visitors in 2010.
