Sierra Nevada Announces Launch Plans for Florida's Space Coast

January 22, 2014 | WMFE Orlando - Private spaceflight company Sierra Nevada says it plans to launch its Dream Chaser spacecraft from Florida as early as November 2016. In a press conference Thursday the company announced it has acquired an Atlas V rocket to launch the mini-shuttle into space.

Sierra Nevada's Mark Sirangelo says the Dream Chaser will be processed before and after the launch at Kennedy Space Center.

"We really believe if we're going to move forward we need to take the best of what's existing and what has been the best of the past and the best of the people. There are some amazing people who are working here in the Florida area, many of whom would love to get back into human spaceflight again."

The Nevada-based company is vying for a NASA contract to carry crew and cargo to the International Space Station.
