Saturday is Human Trafficking Awareness Day

January 24, 2014 | Orlando, WMFE --Area residents can learn to help stop forced prostitution and labor exploitation during Human Trafficking Awareness Day Saturday.

The event will take place at Lake Eola Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Tomas Lares, who leads the Greater Orlando Human Trafficking Taskforce, says the event will help people recognize and report exploitation.  He says, "The more we educate, the more we train and the more we make people aware – more victims are going to be found.  That’s our goal."

The event will also feature a self-defense demonstration and safety information for families.  Among its sponsors are the City of Orlando, Florida Hospital and UCF Victim Services.
