Gov. Scott Proposes $100 Million Tax Cut for Business Rents

January 28, 2014 | Orlando, WMFE - Governor Rick Scott is calling for a $100 million dollar reduction in sales tax on commercial rent.

Scott made the announcement at an Ace Hardware in Orlando today.

The Governor has been laying out parts of his proposed budget ahead of Wednesday’s expected unveiling of his entire budget plan.

Rep. Linda Stewart of Orange County says Scott’s budget focuses on tax breaks for corporations, but she says there should be more of an emphasis on small businesses.

“I think that we need to spend a little more time on the small businesses and we’ve had a lot of attention put on the corporations," Stewart says.

The Orlando Democrat is drafting legislation that she says will include a two-year sales tax waiver for businesses with less than fifteen employees.
