New Flyover Ramp Opens At Busy Seminole Co. Intersection February 5th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Wednesday morning, Seminole County commuters got their first chance to try out a new flyover ramp at State Road 436 and Red Bug Lake Road. The bridge is designed to ease gridlock at the busy intersection, but the two-year construction process has been a long road for both drivers and nearby businesses. It’s a major milestone near the end of Seminole County’s $24.5 million construction project that also included widening both roads. Area small business owners are relieved to see the flyover opening after two years of traffic tie-ups and confusing lane closures during the road work. Sandra Mobijohn owns Kani Beaty Salon in nearby Pine Bay Plaza. “It has affected us, but I can say the worst has come to an end and I’m just excited to see what it’s going to bring us now, because I stayed in and hung in there,” Mobijohn says. “And in the meantime, I’ve been trying to promote a little more with the salon.” Mobijohn says she and other small business owners got creative to survive and thrive through the construction – she began offering free haircuts to new clients, and a nearby restaurant started doing deliveries. As the flyover opens, drivers are bracing for more construction and delays just over a mile away. Crews are beginning to work on another 436 flyover at the 17-92 intersection. |
