Pedestrian Awareness Push Ends Today February 6, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Orlando Law Enforcement wrapped up a three-day pedestrian safety exercise this morning. The “high visibility” effort targeted motorists at some of the most dangerous intersections in Orange County. The push, called “Operation Best Foot Forward,” is a joint effort between the Orlando Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office and is meant to educate, not enforce. “We’re using enforcement through education. We don’t have to write a ticket in order to enforce the law – talk to somebody, raise their awareness, if they have a question we can answer ‘Why did I need to yield in this place?’” With children back in school the awareness push comes at a particularly heavy time for foot traffic in Orange County. Yesterday morning, a six-year-old was struck and killed in a crosswalk on his way to school in Southern Orange County. |
