The James Beard awards are sometimes called the Oscars for Chefs and Restaurants and it’s the first time this announcement ceremony has been held outside its home town of New York City.

To talk about what this means for the growing culinary scene of Central Florida, 90.7’s Matthew Peddie speaks to John Rife, Founder of East End Market, Hari Pulapaka, Owner and Chef of Cress in DeLand, and Ricky Ly, publisher of the Tasty Chomps food blog.

Also, last weekend jurors in Jacksonville found Michael Dunn guilty in four charges of attempted murder in the so-called loud music trial, but failed to reach a verdict on the first-degree murder charge in the death of 17 year old Jordan Davis. The case sparked comparisons to last year’s trial of former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.

To talk about the issues 90.7’s Matthew Peddie is joined by Orlando Sentinel columnist Darryl Owens about the role of race in this trial and the impact it has on Florida.
