Self-service Kiosks to Make Flying Easier for Foreigners at Orlando International Airport

February 19, 2014 | WMFE Orlando - If you're an international visitor flying into Orlando International Airport, handing over your passport to a customs officer may soon be a thing of the past. The airport is the first in the nation to offer self-service kiosks where foreigners can undergo all the same checks they would with an officer.

The 10 kiosks allow travelers to scan their passport and fill out customs declaration forms. John Wagner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it frees up officers to focus on security.

"We're able then to really just to focus less on the administrative type actions that is done in the regular traditional booths and just focus on the questioning and security and law enforcement aspects of doing an inspection of a person entering the U.S."

The kiosks are available to travelers from 37 countries, as long as they’ve visited the United States at least once since 2008. U.S. and Canadian travelers can also use them.

The kiosks are already available to U.S. and Canadian travelers at 10 other airports. Wagner says they've reduced wait times by up to 35 percent.
