Aerospace Company S3 Signs Agreement to Launch from Kennedy Space Center

March 14, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Kennedy Space Center has a new use for its old space shuttle facilities...flight operations for international aerospace firm Swiss Space Systems. The company opened its new US subsidiary at KSC today.

Swiss Space Systems – known as S3 – will repurpose the Shuttle Landing Facility to serve as the launch site for its zero-gravity flights, which are scheduled to begin in 2015. Zero-“g” flights offer the experience of weightlessness for both research and recreational purposes.

A press release from aerospace economic development agency Space Florida says S3 is also considering Kennedy Space Center as its main site for satellite launches starting in 2018. The company is working on a new way to launch sub-orbital satellites using an Airbus aircraft. Space Florida says that technology taps a market with “enormous potential.”

S3 currently has more than 60 employees in Switzerland, Spain, and the US.

Space Florida says it welcomes the opportunity to help S3 with “growth and expansion in our state.”
