Are Theme Parks, Beaches and Medicine the Future of Florida's Tourism Industry?

March 27th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - A bill in the state Senate could bring in a new group of tourists to Florida--but they won't be coming just for the theme parks.

In the past two weeks, Senators from two committees have unanimously approved a bill that would allocate $5 million a year to bring more people to Florida for medical tourism.

The money would go to promote Florida’s hospitality and medical care industries to domestic and foreign visitors.

Renee Stephano of the Medical Tourism Association says packaging services will allow people to know exactly how much they’re spending on medical care before they visit.

"The price transparency and packaging of services is an important piece in the success of the program," says Stephano.

The bill has one Senate committee left.
