Former FAMU Bandmember Jailed for Taking Part in 2011 Hazing

March 28th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando- A former Florida A&M band member has been sentence to one year in jail for his part in a fatal hazing.

Drum major Robert Champion died after he was beaten by other band members on board a bus in Orlando in November 2011.

Jessie Baskin was sentenced today for participating in the beating

Prosecutor Jeff Ashton described the 22-year-old Baskin as being "most-consistently identified as the most enthusiastic" band member in the hazing ritual.

Baskin pleaded no contest to manslaughter.
