Report: Florida's Economy is Recovering, Still Room for Improvement

March 31, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - State economists released a 29-page report looking at everything from wages to housing prices to unemployment.

The report by the Office of Economic and Demographic Research also found that Florida's average wage is dropping behind the national wage.

And one of the most daunting findings was that Florida still had a high number of foreclosures—the highest rate in the nation in February 2014. Nine of the top 10 highest metro foreclosure rates nationwide were in Florida.

The report also notes the drop in Florida's unemployment rate has been helped by people leaving the labor force. The state’s unemployment rate is 6.2%  but the real unemployment rate would be 6.9% if participation had held steady since December 2011.
