Hit & Run Suspect Granted Bond

April 14th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando- The driver charged with leaving the scene of last week's deadly KinderCare crash has been granted bond of $100,000.

Authorities allege 28-year-old Robert Corchado was driving a Dodge Durango last Wednesday when he crashed into another car- which then hit the daycare on Goldenrod Road in Winter Park.

4 year old Lily Quintus died as a result of the crash and 14 people were injured.

In a court hearing Monday morning, prosecutor Lisa Gong Guerrero argued Corchado was a flight risk, because he rented a car shortly after leaving the Durango at a nearby house.

“And remember, his front bumper is gone, is damaged, is left at the scene," Guerrero told the court.

 "He didn’t even bother to stay at that house when he got out of the vehicle. He chose to go to Enterprise to rent a car, and what are you going to rent a car for but to flee,” she said.

Corchado turned himself in Thursday after a nationwide manhunt, and was charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident.

Prosecutors wanted his bond raised to $250,000, and the defense wanted it set at $7,500 but Judge Thomas Kirkland denied both requests.

He said if Corchado posts bond he’s not to leave Orange or Seminole County and he isn’t allowed to drive while the case is pending.
