Passengers can ride free on the commuter train until May 16th, and SunRail officials say the trains are crowded even during off-peak midday service, sometimes with more than 700 people spread out over three passenger cars, and standing room only.

Department of Transportation officials say all available trains have been put into service to meet demand.

They say the peak schedule in late morning and early afternoon is being affected by the crowds.

SunRail runs 32 miles from Debary to Sand Lake, roughly parallel to I-4.

Pay service is scheduled to begin May 19th.

FDOT spokesman Steve Olson says SunRail officials are working to make sure the automated ticket vending machines at the stations will be working by the time customers have to pay to ride.

SunRail passengers should be able to buy tickets through SunRail's website too.
