USTA announced Wednesday the complex at Lake Nona will include more than 100 courts- and it will be the biggest tennis center in the country.

The new facility will feature space for high performance and player development- and it will house the University of Central Florida’s varsity tennis program.

Thad Seymour, senior vice president of Tavistock, the development company behind Lake Nona, says the center will also serve as the headquarters of USTA community tennis.

“And that engages the hundreds of thousands of USTA members and millions of tennis players around the country who participate locally but also many of whom participate in regional and national tournaments.”

Seymour says USTA hopes to host many of those tournaments at Lake Nona.

And he says siting the complex at Lake Nona is an indication of Orlando's potential to develop into a center for sports medicine.

“There’s a very interesting and important bridge between the sports performance cluster anchored by USTA and medical city around sports medicine, and Orlando, we believe has a real opportunity to become a destination for sports medicine specialties.”

The 63 acre complex will break ground later this year, with construction set to finish by the end of 2016.
