Prosecutor Kenneth Lewis will be moved from the major crimes division to general felonies while an investigation is conducted into whether his politics have influenced his work on court cases, officials say.

Last week, Lewis apologized for a Mother’s Day Facebook post in which he urged drug addicts to get sterilized. He called his use of the term “crack hoes” a “poor choice of words,” and said he thought only his friends could see the post.

Orange-Osceola County State Attorney Jeff Ashton called Lewis’s comments offensive and dehumanizing, but said he would not reprimand Lewis for what he viewed as constitutionally protected free speech.
