Former Expressway Authority Board Member to Plead Guilty

June 3, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - A former board member of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority will be in court on Wednesday morning. Marco Peņa is pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of violating Florida's Sunshine Law.

Peña has agreed to pay a $500 fine and associated court costs.

Orange-Osceola County State Attorney Jeff Ashton is investigating allegations board members violated the Sunshine Law before the ouster of the expressway authority's former director.

Ashton says Peña is cooperating with his investigation.

Peña was appointed to the expressway authority by Gov. Rick Scott in July 2013 and resigned last month, citing personal reasons for his departure.

He’s the latest expressway authority board member to face legal trouble.

Vice Chairman Richard Scott Batterson was indicted in April in a separate investigation, on one count of bribery and two counts of soliciting unlawful compensation as a public official.
