Citrus Bowl Renovations Are About Halfway Complete--and Officials Hope it Will Encourage More Visitors  June 4, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Orlando and Orange County officials gave a sneak peek to the media at the progress so far. Photo: Taisha Henry | WMFE Construction only paused for less than an hour as officials talked about the milestones reached during the renovation process. The roughly $207 million project began earlier this year. The lower bowl is almost complete, and the entire stadium will be able to hold over 65,000 people upon completion. Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs says the project fits in well with the new mission to rebrand Orlando more than just a tourism destination. “We want people to know, yeah, we’re the greatest place in the world to visit--but also want them to know, we’re also the greatest place in the world to live. And we are rapidly becoming that, but most people don’t know it," says Jacobs. The stadium will be game ready for the first event, the Florida Blue Florida Classic, in late November.
