As Citrus Field's Renovations Continue Nearby Tinker Field's Fate is Still Unkown

June 4, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - City officials and workers gathered to mark the Citrus Bowl's progress, but they're unsure of what's next for Tinker Field.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says the city wants to preserve the field’s history.

“What we’re going to do is figure out the most appropriate way to recognize the history of Tinker Field,” says Dyer.

Dyer also says the city’s Municipal Planning Board will be meeting soon for a hearing about Tinker Field.

In 2004, Tinker Field was added to the National Register of Historic places.

In its heyday, the baseball field was visited by iconic figures like Babe Ruth and Martin Luther King Jr., who spoke there in 1964 during the height of the civil rights movement.
