Orange County Commissioners Concerned Over Osceola Parkway Expansion

June 10, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Plans to expand Osceola Parkway are causing "heartburn" with some Orange County Commissioners

The plans call for expanding Osceola Parkway at Boggy Creek Road to Narcoossee Road, with a possible connection to the 417.

The Osceola County Expressway Authority says it will make the decision on where the expansion goes even though some of the route options cross into Orange County.

At a meeting Tuesday, Orange County commissioners Jennifer Thompson and Fred Brummer said they are worried about the impact on residents in their districts.

“I still have heartburn over the idea that a regional decision can be made where our residents of Orange County do not have a voice in this process,” said Thompson.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs says she’ll meet with Osceola County commissioners to iron out concerns about the proposed expressway extension.

“I’ll be reaching out to the Osceola County Expressway Authority as well as the County Commission. Fortunately, we have enjoyed - up until this point - a relatively good relationship with the commission,” said Jacobs.
