The law requires drivers to move away from the lane closest to an emergency vehicle. Or, drivers can slow down to a speed 20 miles per hour or less than the speed limit. The crackdown comes one month after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, a tow truck driver and a pedestrian were killed after being struck by car while standing on the shoulder of the road after an accident. Drivers who don’t obey the law can face a $134 fine and 3 points on their license. Deputies will also be enforcing other laws during this operation- including a 2013 law which makes it an offense to text and drive. |
