Environmentalists Pressure Scott on Climate Change Plan

July 2, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando -- Environmentalists want to know what Gov. Rick Scott's plan is on climate change. They say no state is more vulnerable than Florida to rising sea levels.

A new Environmental Protection Agency regulation relies on states to develop plans cutting carbon emissions from power plants.

Pam Rivera of the Natural Resources Defense Council says 70 percent of Floridians support the new regulation.

"Each state is going to have the opportunity of forming an implementation plan. So basically it's going to fall on the governor to come up with a plan for Florida."

Scott, who is up for re-election this year, has not taken a position on the role of human activity in climate change.

His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Natural Resources Defense Council is joining with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and other groups to pressure the governor. Events are planned throughout the state.
