Two Dozen Become U.S. Citizens on July 4 in Kissimmee

July 4, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando -- Two dozen people in Kissimmee will spend this Independence Day evening becoming U.S. citizens.

U.S. Citizens and Immigration Services is holding more than 100 such naturalization events nationwide this week.

Ana Santiago is a regional spokesperson for that group.  She says the connection between Independence Day and naturalization goes back to 1776.  “On the Fourth of July many, many years ago, everyone in this country became a U.S. citizen,” she says.  “Let's continue that tradition.  And, what a better way to do it than, this Fourth of July week, when we continue to welcome new Americans."

The ceremony at Give Kids the World starts at 7 and is open to the public.
