This year’s conference will focus on the prevention, education and treatment of gambling addiction.

Pat Fowler, the executive director of the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling, says one of the conference’s goals is to redefine what gambling addiction means for those affected.

“We certainly hope that it will elevate the discussion and the movement toward the acceptance of gambling addiction as a public health issue and not bad behavior," says Fowler.

The conference will conclude on Saturday with a session on residential treatment programs.
