Katie Ball talks with a pioneer in art education. When Ralph Bagley opened the Orlando Institute of Art in 1950, it was the first fine arts school in Orlando. He later taught art courses for Orlando Junior College and in 1965 he became head of their art department. After the college closed in 1971, Bagley taught at a variety of locations including Lake Sumter Community College in Leesburg, Maitland Art Center, Crealde’ School of Art, Valencia and Loch Haven Art Center (now Orlando Museum of Art). Ralph Bagley has had more than 30 one-man shows around the country. This Thursday, November 2nd, the 93-year old artist opens another one at the Garden House of Leu Gardens. MR. BAGLEY LANDSCAPES AND BOTANICAL STILL LIFES will run through February 5.

The gardens are open 9am - 5 pm everyday except Christmas Day and the Leu House Museum is open 10:00 am - 4:00 pm with tours every thirty minutes on the hour and half hour. Free admission is offered Monday mornings from 9:00 - 12:00 noon. 1920 N. Forest Ave., Orlando; 407-246-2620

For this week's Poetic Logic, Sara Schlossman spotlights New Voices in Central Florida - Rollins College student Sara Kate Moore. Sarah-Kate has studied in the writing program under Connie May Fowler, Philip Deaver, and Russ Kessler. For the past four years, she's been a recipient of the annual Arden Goettling/Academy of American Poets Prize for Rollins students. Her poems have been accepted for publication in Brushing, Double Room and Lorraine and James.

Sarah-Kate and poet Matthew Miller will give a reading on Saturday, November 18th at 7pm at Urban Think Bookstore in Thornton Park.
