On Friday afternoon, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty announced plans to build the proposed Orlando Performing Art Center, along with a new arena and renovations to the Citrus Bowl.


Next Friday, October 6, the Polk Museum of Art presents Red, White & The Blues, a benefit wine tasting and concert with blues great Bobby Rush. Their current exhibits are Women Only! In Their Studios, which runs through October 15, and Herman Leonard: Artistic Stylings, running through November 12.


This Saturday night, Christopher Wilkins begins his official tenure as the second Music Director of the Orlando Philharmonic. On the program is The Hebrides Overture by Mendelssohn, La mer by Claude Debussy and I Have a Recurrent Dream, by Kevin Puts

Orlando writer Yvonne David is the author of Out of the Apple Orchard, a book centered around the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana. Her book was recently presented as a staged reading at the Mesaper Theatre in New York, a company that presents works showing aspects of Jewish heritage. The Arts Connection's Literary Contributor, Irene Zabytko, talks with Yvonne David.

Two productions close this weekend - Man From Nebraska at Theatre Downtown; it closes Saturday; and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown at Orlando Rep. Also, the Orlando Deanery Boychoir celebrates their 25th Anniversary with a special Evensong, featuring the boychoir, men's choir, dozens of alumni from across the country, and the choir's founder, Murray Summerville.
