Arts Connection for February 9-10, 2007

Time for the 3rd Annual OLA Fest - 5 days of Latin American films and music. Also, meet Russell Banks, author of many books, including "Affliction" and "The Sweet Hereafter", both made into feature films.

The 3rd Annual OLAFest - the Orlando Latin American Film & Heritage Festival begins Wednesday, 2/14, with 5 days of films, music, poetry and panel discussions.  There will be 28 films in the festival, shown at City Arts Factory and the Gallery at Avalon Island.

Also this week, the Philharmonia and Prelude Orchestras from the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra will give a CELEBRATION OF MUSIC EDUCATION concert, Sunday at 3 at College Park Baptist Church.  The FSYO Flute Choir will also perform.

And - CRIME AND PUNISHMENT opens at the Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival.

Russell Banks is a prolific author; many of his books have been turned into feature films, including Affliction and The Sweet Hereafter.  The Arts Connection's Literary Contributor, Irene Zabytko, talks to Banks about his career.

Banks was in Central Florida 2 weeks ago to open the Winter with the Writers series at Rollins College.  The literary festival closes next Thursday with Esmerelda Santiago.
