Musicians in the Orlando Philharmonic narrowly voted in favor of union representation recently.  Most players have not wanted to speak about the issue, but some have said they voted against it because of the history of the Florida Symphony in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  The Arts Connection explores why this is such an emotional issue.

SAKtoberfest celebrates the 30th anniversary of SAK Comedy Lab, which is housed in the Centroplex Parking Garage across from the Bob Carr.  Sak created the audience participation improv shows that you see at Epcot, and in addition to the shows Tuesday-Saturday nights, SAK offers classes and workshops.  Many alumni are now working professionally across the country, including Wayne Brady.  Over 60 alums are back in town to perform this week for SAKtoberfest.  There's also an outdoor festival Saturday from Noon-6:30, with Toxic Audio as a special guest.  Check the schedule HERE.  We talk to founding member, Terry Olson.

Two new festivals debut this weekend - the Winter Garden Music Fest runs for 3 days - Friday from 5-10pm, Saturday from Noon-11pm and Sunday from Noon-5pm.  There are 2 stages with a huge range of musical styles - see the schedule HERE.

The other new festival is the Baldwin Park Arts Festival - and some of Orlando's top cultural groups will perform - the ballet, the philharmonic and Orlando Opera.  It's Saturday from 10am-5pm.


The first production in Orlando Repertory Theatre's new season closes this weekend - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been praised for its imaginative production.  (see parent's guide).  Artistic Jeff Revels talks about his vision for the organization, and the next show in the season - a musical version of The Emperor's New Clothes, written by the creators of Seussical the Musical.  It opens October 12, and there's a Prince & Princess Party on October 20.  Call 407-896-7365.
