Major stories of 2007 included the approval of a long-awaited performing arts center.  DPAC, or the Dr. P. Philips Orlando Performing Arts Center is anticipated to open in 2012, but the design process is currently underway.  Local arts groups hope the smaller hall will be an affordable option for them.  The new center was part of an effort to fund 3 community venues - learn more at ProjectHometown.com

Among the other news highlights of the year was the ongoing legal battle between the Daytona Beach News Journal and its minority shareholder, Cox Enterprises.  Cox filed a lawsuit back in 2004, when the family-run newspaper gave 13 million dollars to help build a performing arts center in Daytona.  Cox also cited excessive spending for cultural groups including two that Tippin Davidson, the paper's late publisher, founded - the Florida International Festival and Seaside Music Theatre.  Both groups lost a large percentage of their budgets when the legal issue forced the paper to end all cultural spending.

All of the reports on the lawsuit are archived at this page of the Daytona News Journal.
