Lake County Opens Section 8 Housing Waiting List (March 3, 2008) For the first time in about four years, the Lake County Housing Authority is opening up its waiting list for Section 8 housing. Section 8 is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, also known as HUD, which provides government vouchers to help very low income people afford a place to rent. The reason Lake County is opening its waiting list because it's empty. 90.7's David Pitman called up Lake County Section 8 Program Manager Stacey Kleinfeld, and asked her how long that's been the case.
