 Samuel Beckett Festival presented by Empty Spaces Theatre Company

Empty Spaces Theatre Company, an ongoing artistic collaboration among John DiDonna, Seth Kubersky, Kevin G. Becker and Anna DeMers, will present a Samuel Beckett festival in honor of the Nobel Prize winning author's 102nd birthday.  The festival will feature 18 of Beckett's work, include two series of short plays, several free readings, and Beckett's most well-known work, Waiting for Godot. The performances will take place in the Mandell Theatre of the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, as well as at various venues around Central Florida. The festival pieces will be directed by a veritable who's who in Orlando theater: Kevin G. Becker, Anna DeMers, John DiDonna, Christian Kelty, Seth Kubersky, Laura Lippman, Beth Marshall and Margaret Nolan.

We'll speak with Empty Spaces Theatre producer John DiDonna about this theatrical endeavor, the theatre company, and why he chose to stage the festival.

Ballet Stars Lloyd Riggins and Niurka Moredo return to Orlando 

On April 10-12, the Orlando Ballet School will present "Stars of Tomorrow", a two-hour program showcasing the Orlando Ballet School's aspiring talent and future stars. Two current stars of the ballet world will return to their home this weekend for the program. Lloyd Riggins, son of the Orlando Ballet founder, Barbara Riggins, and his wife, Niurka Moredo, another Orlando native who is a recently retired soloist from Hamburg Ballet, will stage a work for the Orlando Ballet School, their alma mater. Riggins, who was the second ever American principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, has chosen the classic Danish ballet, Napoli, to be featured. The program will also include Baroque in Rhythm, an original piece created especially for Orlando Ballet II by former Paris Opera Ballet dancer and Director of Ballet du Nord, Jean Paul Commelin. All performances will be held in the Main Hall at Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center. 

Performances are Thursday, 4/10 at 7pm, Friday, 4/11 at 8pm and Saturday, 4/12 at 2pm and 8pm.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

The Great Public Art Challenge is Saturday from 2-4pm -- meet at The Leaper sculpture in front of the Orange County Administration Building on Rosalind Avenue.

Equifest

This is the fourth year for Equus, the exhibit that showcases Florida artists who work with horses as the main theme in their art, on display at the Museum of Florida Art. The exhibit includes paintings, drawings, printmaking, and sculpture, and is coupled by Equifest, a one-day horse celebration and outdoor art festival at Lake Helen. Equifest will feature horse shows and trick demonstrations, as well as some family favorite events.

David Pomeranz at the King Center

David Pomeranz is a multi-platinum award-winning American singer, recording artist, lyricist, and composer, and has written and composed for movies, television, and for musical theater. He has toured around the world as a soloist, as well as in collaboration with some of the world's greatest musicians. His latest project is "Charlie Chaplin- A Life in Concert," which explores the life of Chaplin in a unique concert and theatrical experience. It debuts at the King Center April 10th through the 13th.

Organist Clive Driskill-Smith

The Cathedral Church of St. Luke's in Orlando continue its Music series, Music at the Cathedral. The next concert will be this Tuesday at 7:30, featuring the British organist Clive Driskill-Smith.
