Polk County Weighs in on Commuter Rail's Cost, Freight Traffic (April 11, 2008) -- Central Florida's commuter rail plan dodged a bullet in Tallahassee this week, when state lawmakers narrowly defeated an attempt to give some of the project's money to other state agencies. Today, a House commission will debate the liability plan for the rail system that's one of the last pieces of the project's puzzle. Most lawmakers support commuter rail -- But some are raising objections to a part of the deal that would give almost half a billion dollars in state funds to rail company CSX, and move most of the freight train traffic that now rumbles through Orlando into Polk County.
