It travels more than 300 miles from its headwaters near Melbourne, through Central Florida and eventually into the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville. Recently, the river has become the subject of a legal dispute between Central and North Florida. The issue: whether the St. John's should be tapped for drinking water.
