Hank Fishkind Nov. 18 -- Some Big Changes to Florida's Big Deal with Big Sugar

November 18, 2008 -- Less than a week after the state announced some major changes in the proposed deal to buy up land and facilities owned by U.S. Sugar to speed up the restoration of the Everglades, the company now says it's thinking about building a new ethanol plant. The facility, on the south side of Lake Okechobee would convert leftover sugar cane into as much as 100 million gallons of ethanol each year. It's too early to tell exactly how that will factor into the billion-dollar state land buyout. Before that announcement came down, economist Dr. Hank Fishkind talked with 90.7's David Pitman about the changes to the original pact between the state and Big Sugar, and what it means for Everglades restoration.
