Study Outlines How State Can Improve Education, Save Money

March 20, 2009 -- School districts across Florida are facing some tough decisions, as they cut their budgets to cope with reduced funding from Tallahassee. This week, the state Department of Education heard the results of a study it commissioned on how to get better results in the classroom for less money. Harvard University's Paul Peterson was one of three researchers who worked on the study. He stopped by the 90.7 studios to talk about some of the recommendations -- one of which is to stop paying higher salaries to teachers who have masters degrees. Peterson told 90.7's David Pitman that national studies have shown teachers with masters degrees are not necessarily better at their jobs.
