Orlando Drops Efforts to Move Homeless Shelter out of Parramore

April 5, 2009 -- After years of trying, the City of Orlando has abandoned its effort to convince one of the region's largest homeless shelters to leave the downtown Parramore neighborhood. As the city works to revitalize the low-income area, it's tried to convince the Coalition for the Homeless to move its complex of shelters to another location. The disagreement has stood in the way of the Coalition's desire to rebuild a badly outdated men's shelter on its property. But now, WMFE has learned that Orlando is endorsing the project, and it's even agreed to help fund it. 90.7's Judith Smelser has this exclusive story.
